Insomniac - Visual Storytelling
Short Film Editing: Visual Storytelling Inspired by Maya Angelou’s Insomniac
This short film is a visual adaptation of Maya Angelou’s poem Insomniac, capturing its restless and haunting themes through expressive cinematography and symbolic storytelling. As the editor, my role was to shape the film’s rhythm and structure, ensuring that the visuals, pacing, and soundscape aligned seamlessly with the poem’s emotional weight.
To enhance the film’s atmosphere, I incorporated a noise-like sound design—layering ambient distortions, muffled echoes, and rhythmic static to mirror the disoriented, sleepless state described in the poem. Through precise cuts, color grading, and immersive sound design, this project challenged me to translate poetry into a cinematic experience, reinforcing the power of editing in conveying emotion, tone, and narrative depth.
